Charlotte, NC- May 6, 2012 – It is common knowledge amongst NASCAR drivers, crews and fans alike, anything is possible in superspeedway racing. This was proven evident this weekend, both with unseasonably cold and rain filled weather and with the racing itself. Martin and the crew of the No.44 American Custom Yachts Toyota Camry team were optimistic that their newly acquired MWR chassis would have a strong showing at Talladega. Despite qualifying in 32nd position, Martin and crew were able to move into 12th place quickly. Then, on lap 19, Martin received front end damage as he reacted to a spin involving other drivers. His knowledgable crew were able to make repairs in the garage area; however, the repairs cost Martin and crew valuable time on track and resulted in a 34th place finish.

Hal Martin on Talladega Superspeedway

This was your first time competing at Talladega Superspeedway as a NASCAR Nationwide Series driver, how was it?
Martin replied, “I was really looking forward to a strong showing at this track because I have strong ties to this track both personally and in my ARCA racing days. I guess things just weren’t meant to be. I’m very proud of my TriStar Motorsports crew. They were able to build me a car that drafted well during the race, moved up through traffic quickly, and were able to fix the car quickly and return me to the track to finish the race.”
This week, you were able to bring some of your Cajun roots to the world of NASCAR, how was that?
ACY Fans

“It was a lot of fun. I had a big group of my fans from South Louisiana in the turn one infield camp grounds. They cooked a Cajun feast for my crew and I, and we were able to watch the ARCA race from on top of their motorhome. We had Louisiana caught fried shrimp and fish, gumbo, white beans and rice, and fried turkey. It was delicious, and it was an awesome opportunity for my crew and I to hang out and enjoy the other side of NASCAR that I think we sometimes lose sight of because we’re in the thick of it all. It was nice to watch a race together with good food and good friends” Martin explained.

Speedway tracks are known for two-car-tandems and drafting, did you get to try these out?

Martin stated, “When the race started I was able to quickly find my TriStar Motorsports teammates Mike Bliss and Eric McClure and formed a drafting pack with them. In this three car pack we formed, we were able to move up to 11th, 12th and 13th places by lap 18. It was such a rush to be in our own draft and to be passing so many cars. When I returned to the track after I received damage to the front of my car, I stayed towards the back and did not draft or enter any two-car-tandems in an attempt to keep my car out of trouble for the remainder of the race.”
Looking Forward:

Martin will next compete in the VFW Sport Clips Help A Hero 200 at Darlington Raceway in Darlington, SC on Friday, May 10th at 7:30pm.
